Best Yoga Straps in 2018 For Extra Spectacular Stretching Your Body

The Benefits of Using a Yoga Strap

Yoga straps are perfect yoga accessories for any level yoga practitioner. If you are not using one already, you should consider getting a yoga strap as soon as possible.

If you are trying to increase your flexibility, a yoga strap is an excellent option to consider. It is because yoga straps can improve the effectiveness of the stretch you are getting during your yoga sessions.

A yoga strap does this by helping to maintain proper alignment in postures. It can also contribute to connecting limbs.

Straps can help you deepen your stretch, hold poses longer, and experiment with new poses.

You can even use a strap to help open you up. They are magnificent for shoulder openings.

Yoga straps can also help you twist deeper. It means you can extend your limbs longer without discomfort.

Some yoga poses can seem confusing at first, but a good yoga strap can make them a reality for you. I have spoken to many people who have said they have avoided yoga because they were worried they were not flexible enough to participate.

Once you learn how to use a yoga strap, you will become more flexible, and you will have better posture too. You should always remember that yoga is not just about flexibility.

Yoga is about reaching a point of synchronization between your mind, body, and spirit. The last thing you want to do is worry about your yoga straps quality.

The Clever Yoga Strap impressed us because of the lifetime warranty that came with it - it is a good sign when a company has that much confidence in their product.

The YogaAccessories strap convinced us with its sturdy D-Rings, and Gaiam’s yoga strap is one of our top products because of their organic cotton.

Fit Spirit® Fitness Exercise Yoga Strap is another sturdy strap we looked at. Now let’s have a closer look at each of them.

If you do not care much about design and beautiful looks, then the Manduka Yoga Strap offers everything you need from a good yoga strap.

The strap is fully made of cotton which gives it a good grip, and it comes in two sizes so you can choose the one most suitable for you.

The material is also very sturdy, and we liked the way the buckle was designed. We don’t think anyone would easily be able to break it by just doing yoga stretches.

  • Comes in two sizes
  • Strong buckle design

What We Didn't Like:

  • Not a big selection of colors
  • Uninspiring design

2. Clever Yoga Strap

Clever Yoga Strap

It was hard to find something negative to say about this yoga strap. Often things that seem too good to be true aren’t true. Not in this case, to our delight.

We had to put a lot of pressure on the strap until we managed to get the strap to slip, and usually, you will not run into that kind of problem when you use the strap for yoga only!

The strap comes in a few nice colors and with a lifetime warranty! The family behind the product will exchange your belt for free - even after years of usage - if it does not keep its promises

3. Yoga Accessories D-Ring Buckle Cotton Yoga Strap

This yoga strap comes in an excellent selection of different lengths and colors. It is made of cotton, which is the best material for yoga straps.

The strong metal D-ring are very sturdy, and you’ll most likely need Superman or Supergirl strength to be able to break or bend them.

For our taste, the strap was a bit on the thin side, and we would not use it for anything that required us to put a lot of pressure on the material.

What We Liked:

  • Various colors
  • Various sizes
  • Made of cotton
  • Metal rings won’t break or bend

What We Didn't Like:

Gaiam often impresses us, but always tends to disappoint because of their lack of design option.

The same applies with this yoga strap. It comes in only two different colors.

On the bright side, the yoga strap is of excellent quality. Maybe a little on the thin side, but not thin enough to worry about it.

It is a nice touch that the cotton they use is organic - and often this is a major factor for people who practice yoga.

The rings at the end of the belt are sturdy and do not let the strap slip when you put pressure on them.

What We Liked:

  • Made of organic cotton
  • Easy-release D-rings
  • No slipping of string
  • Works well with the most challenging poses

5. Fit Spirit® Fitness Exercise Yoga Strap

If you do not want to spend a lot of money, this yoga strap is a great option as it combines a low price with high quality.

We felt like the strap was a bit too sturdy and too thick. We prefer softer and slightly thinner materials, but this one does the job very well.

The D-rings keep the strap in place when you need it to stay put, and you also won’t have to worry about breaking anything.

What We Liked:

  • Beautiful colors
  • Sturdy design
  • D-Rings
  • Very cheap

What We Didn't Like:

  • Material is a bit thick

Tips for Choosing a Good Strap

Choosing the perfect yoga strap can be frustrating and even mind-boggling. If you don’t know what makes a belt a right strap, you may waste money on something that doesn’t perform as you predicted.

Here are some tips for picking out the best yoga strap for extra spectacular stretching of your body.

  • A great yoga strap should be extremely durable. This will have to hold up to extended use.
  • We have always preferred a yoga strap made from natural materials. This is much better; you don’t want to have chemicals in the fabric you are going to have to contact your body.
  • Cotton is an excellent choice because it is easy to grasp and lasts a long time.
  • Try to avoid any material that is going to get slippery. You don’t want to choose a strap that has any kind of moisture buildup.
  • The six-foot strap is the most popular style and length available today. This is a good size for anyone of average height or below.
  • If you are a little taller, or not flexible at all, you may want to consider the eight-foot version. The extra length can get in the way, but it is better to have more strap than you need, rather than not enough.
  • There are some different closures used to keep your strap We prefer the two metal loops over the plastic and quick connect options.

Having no closure is another option you may want to think about. Many yoga positions do not need the end rings.

How to Use a Yoga Strap?

I use yoga straps all the time to increase my flexibility. One typical example of an easy to learn yoga strap exercise is as follows.

It is basically touching your toes. If you can't touch your toes, you can use the strap to hold your stretch.

By wrapping the strap behind your legs you can increase the effectiveness of your workout. Over time you can pull yourself closer until you can touch your toes.

Another easy yoga strap stretch is:

  • Stand up and take your strap into your right hand.
  • Next, find the middle of your strap and make a loop.
  • Lift your left toes and spread them, then move them around. Inhale, and as you inhale, visualize the air entering your body through your left foot.
  • Activate your quad muscles and activate your core muscles. Now place this foot on the ground making sure to have a solid stance.
  • Inhale again.
  • Next, Lift your right leg and loop the strap around the center of your sole of your right foot.
  • Exhale and extend your right leg outward. You will feel the added foundation your strap will provide.
  • Try to lean back and stand very tall. Activating your core can help you lift your leg even higher.
  • Hold this for three deep breaths. When you are ready, gently release.
  • Now to switch sides and repeat.

How to Tie Yoga Straps?

Yoga straps need to be done in a very specific way. It seems simple, but it can be difficult, and cut into your pose time.

Most straps have a belt or a buckle. First, you should take your strap from the bottom end and loop it through the bottom hole.

Then grab your strap from the top and go all the way through the top loop. From there you want to adjust to the recommended size of the poses you are about to do.
