The Cosmic Cushion comes in a variety of colors, and you can choose between a buckwheat or kapok filling.

While many meditation cushions are round or square, this one has a slightly different design which is intended to relieve pressure on the thighs and support them. While this might be useful for some, we found it not very helpful as the filling was moving around a bit when we moved, and it distracted us from what we were doing.

The quality of the cushion is excellent, and the filling will last for a long time. You will also have no issues with washing the cover of the pillow when needed.

What We Liked:

  • This cushion is filled with durable buckwheat or kapok
  • The sloping design provides excellent posture and thigh support
  • Helps maintain optimal positioning during meditation
  • It's very easy to adjust via the zipper, and it has a removable cover that is machine washable

What We Didn't Like:

  • The filling on the sides moves around a bit too much when you change position
  • Not all people like this type of shape

2. Peace Yoga® Zafu Meditation Yoga Buckwheat Filled Round Cotton Bolster Pillow Cushion

While we found this cushion to be on the small side, it might be the best solution for smaller people who find that other buffers are too large or too high. What is a negative for us, might be a positive thing for you!

We loved that the company put the buckwheat filling into a separate pouch because often the filling is such a hassle to take out when you want to clean the cover. Not in this case!

Cleaning a meditation cushion has never been easier than with this one.

The pillow for meditation also has a carry handle so you can carry it without issues.

What We Liked:

  • Buckwheat filling is inside a pouch, so it is easy to remove when you want to wash the cushion’s outside

What We Didn't Like:

The zafu cushion comes in an excellent selection of colors and is filled with buckwheat in an organic cotton cover. Thanks to the organic materials, you will feel very grounded.

However, we would like to add some extra filling as the cushion felt too soft for us. But that’s easily done!

The zipper seems a bit flimsy, and you need to make sure you close it properly. Otherwise the buckwheat will slowly spill out.

What We Liked:

  • Organic cotton

  • Eco-friendly
  • Comfortable

What We Didn't Like:

  • Might need some extra filling as it is a bit soft
  • Zipper is a bit flimsy

The YogaAccessories meditation cushions jumped right at us because of their fabulous design options. You can order ordinary colors, but there are also some lovely designs.

By now you might have realized that we have a thing for cute designs! But don’t worry, there is more to these meditation cushions than just beautiful looks.

The material is very well made and there is a zipper (well-hidden though, to not disturb the design) so you can remove and refill the cushion as needed, e.g. for cleaning or if you think the pillow is a bit overstuffed when it arrives (as it happened our case).

We think the pillow might be a bit on the small side, so if you are very tall, or a plus size, you might feel a bit unbalanced.

It also has a handle that makes it very easy to carry it around when needed.

What We Liked:

  • Very inspiring designs - more than just colors

  • Handle for easy carrying
  • Solid but comfortable

What We Didn't Like:

  • Might be a bit overstuffed, but you can take out some stuffing to adjust
  • A little on the small side

This meditation pillow is a good solution if you travel a lot, but do not want to leave your meditation pillow behind. You can just put this pillow in your bag and then inflate it when you need it.

The great thing about the design is that it is made with three different chambers that allow you to adjust the pillow to your needs. You might want the side chambers to be lower than the middle one, or might, for some reason, need the left side to offer more support than the right. This pillow makes it possible.

We found that it is not very easy to fully deflate the pillow, so you will need some patience for that. We also think that you feel a little less grounded than when using a pad with a different type of filling - but for on the move, it is hard to beat!

What We Liked:

  • Takes up little space

What We Didn't Like:

  • Does not deflate easily
  • You feel less grounded when sitting on the cushion

Types of Filling for Meditation Cushions

You are going to want to choose a filling that is comfortable to you.

We recommend buckwheat balls. Buckwheat balls are almost like sitting on the sand, and are very conforming to your body.

They are also able to be used for a long time without showing signs of compression. Buckwheat will last many years because it is very durable.

Cotton batting is the next most popular choice. It is very comfortable and less expensive than buckwheat.

The downside to this filling is it has a tendency to compress. The compression can cause your cushion to become stiff and uncomfortable.

Air is the very comfy solution. The problem with an air filled unit is the fact that it will constantly have to be inflated, as all inflatable cushions lose pressure over time.
